LEARN TO SKATE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Beginner
For those with little or no skating experience. We will cover balance, proper falling and getting up unassisted. Skaters will be taught to march across the ice unassisted. No prerequisite for this class.
Pre Alpha
For skaters that are able to fall down and get up by themselves and can skate unassisted with some flow and speed across the ice. Skills covered are the one foot glides, forward and backward swizzles and backward wiggles. Prerequisite - skater must have passed Beginner class or meets the skating ability level listed above.
Alpha
Skills for this level are forward stroking/strides, forward crossovers left and right and a one foot snowplow stop. Prerequisite - skater must have passed Pre Alpha.
Beta
Skills for this level are backward stroking, backward crossovers left and right and the right and left foot T stops. Prerequisite – skater must have passed Alpha.
Gamma
Skills for this level are forward outside three turns – left and right, mohawk combination – left and right, hockey stop. Prerequisite – skater must have passed Beta.
Delta
Skills for this level are forward inside three turns – left and right, forward outside and inside edges, bunny hop and shoot the duck or lunge. Prerequisite – skater must have passed Gamma.
After completing the learn to skate classes the skaters have the opportunity to enter our Freestyle program. This program focuses on the jumps and spins of figure skating. We offer Freestyle 1 through Freestyle 10 group lesson settings as well as private instruction for these levels.
