BLAINE, Minn. (July 3, 2008) – The National Sports Center (NSC) announced, that it will replace its aging artificial turf in the Sports Hall with a permanently installed turf. Installation will begin in early November, with the intent of starting the fall indoor leagues on the new product.
The indoor Sports Hall, measuring 100 x 70 yards, is host to field sports such as lacrosse, soccer and rugby throughout the year.
It has not yet been determined which brand name will be used. The specific brand will be chosen and announced within the next 30 days.
The turf will cover close to 60,000 square feet, including the hallway in the Sports Hall, allowing the hallway to be used as a training area.
The turf will be there year-round, as opposed to the old turf that came out seven months a year.
“This will radically improve the playability of the field,” said Steve Olson, Chief Operating Officer at the NSC. “It plays like real grass and will add eight weeks to the indoor league. We also plan to try and play a full field league of 9v9 soccer. The response so far has been very positive.”
The Champlin-Dayton Soccer Association is the first sports association to sign a lease agreement to use the new turf. According to Olson, it will work the same way as the teams who bought a share of hours on the ice rinks at the Schwan Super Rink; it will gain Champlin-Dayton the same level of rights to primetime hours as the NSC’s own programs.
